Seniors

AARP Driver Safety Program

The AARP driver safety course for those age 50 and older covers changes in vision, hearing and reaction time associated with aging, and provides practical techniques of the “rules of the road” with an emphasis on safety strategies. Graduates may be eligible to receive a discount on their auto insurance. $10. Participants must attend both days to graduate from the class. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 and 19, April 22 and 23, May 20 and 21, Meeting Room 3 on the Health Center’s second floor. AARP Celebration of Life Fair

Join representatives from St. Mary’s Health Center’s Senior Services at this AARP health fair April 2 at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Take part in health screenings, pick up health information and talk with our pharmacists about your medication concerns. The fair will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 314-768-8834.

University City Senior Lifestyle & Resource Expo

Take part in free health screenings from St. Mary’s Health Center and learn how to improve your health at this fun event. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 29 at the Centennial Commons Recreation Center in University City. For more information, call 314-768-8834.

Shepherd Center Health Fair

Enjoy free health screenings from St. Mary’s Health Center at this health fair for seniors. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 28 at the Christian Life Center of Webster Hills.

Diabetic Foot Clinic

People with diabetes need to be aware of non-healing wounds on their feet. The Senior Care Center at St. Mary’s will hold free diabetic foot clinics from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 4, April 1 and May 6. Participants will be evaluated by a podiatrist for any potential problems with feet and toes. Appointments required.

Ask the Pharmacist

Could your prescription drugs react to over-the-counter medications? Have questions about your medicines? Make an appointment and bring your medication list to St. Mary’s Senior Care Center to meet with one of our pharmacists. Dates and hours vary. Appointments required. Call 314-SSM-DOCS.

Look Good … Feel Better

Attend a makeup workshop sponsored by the American Cancer Society for women who recently underwent or are currently experiencing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. A licensed cosmetologist teaches a session on scarf-tying, shows a parade of hats and provides each participant with a wonderful makeup kit filled and donated by the cosmetics and fragrance industry. Empower and Engage

FREE mammograms for women age 40 and older who do not have insurance to cover them. Empower and Engage participants receive breakfast or lunch, a clinical breast exam, a mammogram and breast-health education with St. Mary’s professionals. Call 314-768-8353 to register.

Breast Cancer Support Group

A monthly support group for women who have overcome breast cancer and those currently coping with the disease. Each meeting includes a special guest speaker, refreshments and fellowship with other women with similar experiences. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s on Tuesdays, March 18, April 15 and May 20. For more information, call 314-768-8050.

Cholesterol and Glucose Screenings

SSM Fertility Care Services

Learn the Creighton Model, which helps couples achieve or avoid a pregnancy. $28 per couple for introductory session. Thursdays, March 20, April 17 and May 15. Call 314-768-8017 to register.

Adoptive Parents Preparation

A four-part program for those preparing to adopt a child or those who have recently adopted a child. $55 per couple. 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, April 1, 8, 15 and 22

Tours of Maternity Suites

Breastfeeding Class

Learn about breastfeeding, how the breast makes milk, establishing a good milk supply and more. $20 per couple. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursdays, March 20, April 17 and May 15, 10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, April 5 and May 3

Sibling Preparation

Helps children understand life with a new sibling. $10 for one child, $5 for each additional child. 9 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 5

Share Program

A grief support program for parents facing the loss of a newborn or miscarriage. Program meets the second Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in Cafe Conference Room C. For more information, please call 314-768-8349.
