LOUIS - A record number of employees and physicians -- more than 400 of them - from across SSM Health Care gathered Oct. 29 to share best practices for improving patient care at SSM's 2009 Showcase for Sharing. "It takes a village to put on a Showcase," said Eunice Halverson, corporate vice president - SSM's Quality Resource Center. With the theme “SSM's Got Talent," the daylong event featured about 20 break-out sessions by talented caregivers and the practices they intiaited to provide exceptional care to patients. Among the session topics were reducing patient falls and managing patient wait times in the emergency department; diabetes education for young people and their families; a docudrama on end-of life issues for families and caregivers; and relationship-based care. Some sessions also focused on being good stewards of SSM financial resources. "We do this for our patients," Halverson added. "All the presentations we're doing can be related back to patient care." During the Showcase, SSMHC also announced the winners of its handwashing video contest and recognized graduates of its CQIplus project team leader training. View a list of graduates.
